Inventory Service: The
idea of an inventory service is intriguing. A small business that
catalogs household goods, jewelry, art, electronic equipment, cameras,
etc. for the homeowner or apartment dweller. Should there be a fire or theft,
a record will exist of the items. This is a great tool for every
homeowner or apartment owner to posses. It's exactly what will be needed
to properly file insurance claims. This is a business that requires
attention to detail. Nothing must be left out of the inventory. The
homeowner/ apartment dweller is presented with a CD-ROM or even a DVD
with all of the information-written and visual. For an additional fee
the entrepreneur will keep a copy of the disc for future updating and/or
security purposes. An inventory service can be
launched with a laptop computer and a digital camera. Inventory services
can charge anywhere from $25 to $50 per hour or even more if the market
will bear it. A per-day flat fee could be set, too. Potential clients are everywhere.
Develop an advertisement for the local newspaper and consider placing an
ad on a local cable television station. (It's a lot cheaper than you
think.) Your customer list could grow to
include small business owners. Assess your tools and develop a format
for your inventory business. Start with your own home and fine-tune your
format until you have it just right. This is a business you can start
on a part-time basis and grow into a fulltime income. You can run your
service from home without any overhead for an outside facility. You can also provide your clients
with inventory forms and they can fill them out. You can offer to video
the home and give that to the client. We found a service online that
charges $149 for the inventory forms (the client fills them out) and a
two-hour video of their homes' contents. Do a search on the Internet and
see what other inventory services charge. Factor in your market and
develop the proper fees for your area. |
