I want to start a business, but can't fine one I like, what do I do?
by Cianna P.

Well, that's when I think brainstorming is in order. Find some time when you are not going to be disturbed, and sit with a pen or pencil, and paper. Quiet lighting also helps me a lot. Now, think over your whole life and write down everything that comes to mind that you have done. Even some things that you dreamed you would like to do as a child. Also think about hobbies, volunteer activities, just anything that comes to mind. Write even everything you think that you would even just like to learn. Don't omit or censure anything yet, we are just getting ideas for now. They don't even have to be business ideas, just ideas, likes dislikes, etc. Do you like music? cooking? baking? Painting?

Now, think about personality types. Are you a people person, and like to be around people (you can also do service businesses) or do you like to work alone? Do you like to create small objects or large ones? Do you like detail work, or are more into overall concepts? Take your time to list all you can. This is not a timed pop quiz:)

Now that you have everything written down, separate all of them into categories. Mainly likes and dislikes. Look at what you like, and what you don't like. Look at what kind of things you can do with your likes and your personality. For example: If you are a people person and you like baking you could:

    1. You could sell gourmet foods 2. You could start a catering business 3. You could sell pastries( or pizza, etc) that you make from scratch 4. Teach people cooking skills

If you are not a people person and like to bake you could:

    1. Sell foods mailorder 2. Get representatives for your sales, and just make the product 3. Place your product in stores 4. sell baking supplies via mail, internet, other people 5. write cooking articles, or books

So, there is a huge variety of ways to use your skills and personality together to create the perfect business for you

When you start thinking of a business you could get ideas by:

Think not just products, but services, someone else's product, and offshoots of those ideas. Looking in the yellow pages under different businesses, T.V. ads, newspaper ads. Think about what you can create for your product or services that you think you may like to provide. You can also sell someone else's product, and be their representative, and you don't even have to create a product!

These words may help you brainstorm:

A product, other people's product, services for product, offshoots you can about the product( articles, books), Supplies for the product you can sell, Teaching about product, new ways to use product, or change product for a new use.

Now start weeding! Pick out some of your business ideas, and see if they match your personality likes. Think that you will be doing this every day, so think about what your day will be like. IF it something you would like to do, but you don't have the skills yet, do you think you will take the time to learn it? Then when you do, you may have to rethink if it something you really want to do. And do every day? Keep weeding until you have something manageable, and a few things you really want do, and get started until you have one great idea for you!

Then...start working on it!

Good luck on your new business:) Cianna
